Having opened (or installed) the previously mentioned software (and while you are logged on to the 'Net), perform these steps.

Step 1--create a file/directory on your harddrive (floppies are OK, but not as good). You can call it anything you want.

Step 2--open a new window in either Netscape or Internet Explorer (Control N, or FILE...NEW...WINDOW...YES...)

Step 3--go to your website. Allow the page to completely load.

Step 4--save the code of the file. In either Netscape or Internet Explorer (Control S, or FILE...SAVE AS...YES...). Either save directly to the folder in Step 1 above, or move it to this folder.

Step 5--open either NotePad or SuperNoteTab. Open the file that you just saved in either NotePad or SuperNoteTab (Control O, or OPEN...FILE...). You are now looking at code and you are going to hardcode the webring's code into the page.

Step 6--from any of the E.Mails you were sent, carefully highlight the webring's code (note: If you are at AOL, be sure that you are really looking at the code and not some half transformed mess unique to the truly weird E.Mail program that comes with AOL), then copy (Control C, or ALT...EDIT...COPY...). This will put the code into your Clipboard memory. Be sure that you have used your unique site ID in place of the more generic "user ID" or else the code will fail. If you are looking at the copy that I sent you, it is probably already correct. If you can't find this code, just E.Mail me again and give your website's address and I'll E.Mail it to you (for the third time). If you are at AOL and you feel you are looking at a transformed messed-up version of the code, try opening the E.Mail in a text program (NotePad or SuperNoteTab). Sorry for bashing AOL so much here, but there's a price to be paid for slick, fast, easy and noncompliant with 'Net standards, and you are now paying it.

Step 7--find the last three lines of code. They will probably look something like this:

{/table}
{/body}
{/html}

if you used one of the easy page-building wizards, but if it doesn't, don't sweat it. It's the

{/body}
{/html}

part that's really important.

Step 8--place your cursor directly in front of

{/body}

Step 9--paste the code (Control V, or ALT...EDIT...PASTE...). This should cause the webring code to now be just above the

{/body}

If it didn't work, try again, starting at Step 6. If it worked, hit ENTER once

Step 10--if the code looks like what's described above, save it (Control S, or FILE...SAVE...YES...). If you know you botched it, unsave it (Control Z, or EDIT...UNDO...YES...). Congratulations, you've learned to hardcode!!! All HTML writing bears some resemblance to what you've just done.

Step 11--in that second window (see Step 2), open the file (either Netscape or Internet Browser, FILE...OPEN/OPEN FILE...CHOOSE FILE/BROWSE...and select the file...OPEN...). See if the code is now displaying as the webring's name and links. If it is, you are now done with this part. Leave both windows open and close NotePad or SuperNoteTab. Test the links in the webring by clicking the one for RANDOM (don't test any other, you're not all the way in the webring yet and you'll just get an error message). If it works nicely, go to the Page Three of the Webring Help Pages. If it doesn't, you goofed something and God[dess] help you. Do not upload nor publish it. Start over at Step 1 or E.Mail me and I'll see if I can find the bug (usually I can't, unfortunately).
